Early Childhood Education Services...

  • Each program is 12-36 weeks in length, the courses are offered in pairs, or "blocks," designed to complement each other. In these programs, emphasis alternates weekly between in class, reading and online discussion six week and a work project the next.

HS University offers the following credential/license programs to enrolled students.

  • In order to earn a administrator or Supervisor credential or become a licensed professional, students must complete the required courses, a portfolio, a prior learning assessment and a formal observation to be submitted to the Council for Professional Recognition (http://www.cdacouncil.org/) for review.
  • These courses prepares students to:

    Bring a strong developmental perspective to their work with young children and families

    Support second-language learners and children with special needs

    Create opportunities to examine and reflect on their teaching

    Improve classroom practice and learning environments through hands-on activities

    Improve classroom practice and learning environments through hands-on activities

    Strengthen connections between their centers and children's homes

    Build a repertoire of skills and resources to assist parents in caring effectively for their children

     

    Requirements of program:

    For a admistrator credential, a student must complete 15 units or 5 credit hours of training;

    For a supervisor credential, a student must complete 30 units or 10 credit hours of training

    To become a licensed professional, a student must complete 45 units or 15 credit hours of training;

    All students must also:

    -- Complete120 clock hours of fieldwork in the disabilities service area

    -- Complete online examination and documentation process

    -- Complete a Prior Learning Assessment portfolio packet

    -- Pay license fee (License fees are determined by state in which student resides)

    -- Professional Resource file presented to the Council for Professional Recognition

    -- Complete the award review process

    Professional Resource File

    Each course has been designed so that the CDA credential competencies will be demonstrated through hands on assignments, enabling each student to build the required portfolio is made toward the CDA Certificate.  For students seeking CDA status, this file will consist of 17 resource items. All assignments given throughout the courses are complied to create the final Professional Resource File.

    Admission Criteria

    Candidates for admission to the credential program must be employed in a Head Start program (Working 20 hours or more) and possess a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma. Candidates must complete an application for admission and an eligibility assessment form and register for a 2 day credential event or a 6 week online credential event.

    The deadline for Fall #1 session is September.  Classes begins every 6 weeks.
